About Us
The Hill County Cell Block Museum is located one block north of the Hill County Courthouse in Hillsboro, Texas.
The Hill County Cell Block Museum in Hillsboro, Texas is a local history museum housed in the county’s historic 1893 jail building, designed by noted architect W.C. Dodson (who also designed the Hill County Courthouse).
Originally the old county jail—with living quarters for the sheriff’s family in front and inmate cells and offices in the rear—it held prisoners until the early 1980s. After being acquired by the Hill County Historical Commission, the building was restored and repurposed to showcase regional history.
Today the museum features exhibits on local heritage, including Native American artifacts, early Texas life, the cotton industry, vintage clothing, military history, and even memorabilia related to Hill County native Willie Nelson. It also includes a historic Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a gazebo on the museum grounds, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places with a Texas Historical Marker.
Museum Hours are Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm during April through October.
