Get ready for the ride of a lifetime! The Experimental Aircraft Association's Young Eagles program offers FREE flights for kids aged 8-17. That's right, you heard it, free flights! Imagine soaring through the skies and experiencing the thrill of aviation firsthand. Not only is this an exciting adventure, but it's a chance to learn about the science and technology behind flight.

Mark your calendars because we'll open registration for each of these rally's approximately 2 weeks prior to each scheduled event on the eaachapters.org site. Just key-in your zip code and look for our logo.

Parents will register their child online before the event, and choose the desired time for their child to participate. On the day of the event, please arrive a little before your assigned time to check in. The Young Eagle will then attend a 30 minute basic ground school class, after which he/she will meet their pilot for a briefing of the intended flight. They will then complete a walk-around preflight of the airplane and proceed to accomplish the flight. After returning from the flight, the YE will be debriefed on the flight, and receive a certificate and YE logbook that the pilot has signed.

Meet the Pilot

The pilots who participate in the Young Eagles program are local members of EAA who are volunteering their time and aircraft to make your flight possible. Each Young Eagles pilot is certificated with the Federal Aviation Administration or Transport Canada. Flights are conducted according to federal regulations, and no aerobatic maneuvers will be performed. A pilot's complete youth protection training and vetted via a background check.

What will the pre-flight be like?

The pilot will explain what your child will see and do. This may include explaining how airplanes work, looking at an aeronautical chart (or map), and describing the interior of the airplane, including the instrument panel. Then comes the fun part: time to go flying!

Safety Reminders

Safety is always a top priority when it comes to aviation. Listen and follow instructions given by that pilot, stay away from the propellers, and stay with the pilot or ground crew at all times. Do not enter the ramp area unescorted.

What will the flight be like?

Young Eagles will spend about 15 to 20 minutes in the air and experience the awesome feeling of flight that many people only dream about. Many people remember this experience for the rest of their lives!
