Position Objective: To coordinate a prevention-focused community coalition for youth, families and community members in Hill County. Position Description: This is a full-time position. Supervised by the Program Director and the Chief Operating Officer, the Coalition Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating activities associated with the coalition. The Coordinator will work to facilitate substance use prevention services based on the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Strategies which include: 1. Prevention Education 2. Positive Alternatives 3. Information Dissemination 4. Problem Identification and Referral 5. Community-Based Process 6. Environmental and Social Policy Position Responsibilities: Report to Program Director and Coalition Leadership Work as a team member with REACH staff to meet program and organization goals Continually broaden expertise in the area of substance use/misuse prevention best practices and serve as a resource in the field Represent coalition through professional associations locally, statewide, and nationally. Recruit and maintain a diverse coalition membership Serve as Coordinator for coalition by conducting activities such as: Conducting needs assessment activities Developing instruments and protocols for testing effectiveness of coalition strategies Conducting community health planning activities Collecting, managing, and analyzing community health indicators data Directing coalition in the development of health policies related to Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs (ATOD) use and misuse prevention Collaborating with other local, state and national organizations focusing on (ATOD) use and misuse prevention Coordinate and facilitate coalition meetings and communicate effectively with members to promote collaboration, negotiation, and problem solving Plan, coordinate, and conduct educational and training activities. Maintain and develop content for the coalition website and social media pages Collaborate with local government leaders, health department administrators, legislators, heads of health plans, hospitals, physicians’ health organizations, related businesses, academic institutions and community- based organizations to promote coalition’s mission and goals Develop marketing and media materials and campaigns in collaboration with coalition. Serve as a consultant to develop community partnerships. Work with local groups on: -Coalition development and maintenance -Community health planning and needs assessments -Health outcomes evaluation -Developing effective health plans and policies -Addressing health disparities in community Document findings and progress of programs and activities in monthly reports. Obtain Certified Prevention Specialist (APS) Certification within 18 months of hire date (supported and paid for by organization/ program funds). Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certifications must be obtained within 2 months of employment, and certifications must remain current at all times. 15 hour Prevention Training must be completed within 6 months of employment Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST) must be completed within 18 months of employment. Perform other duties as assigned to meet program and agency objectives. Required Qualifications / Credentials / Training: Bachelor’s degree and/ or experience managing or coordinating a community-based coalition; Relevant degree/ education in public health education, social work, public administration, public policy/planning, and other similar fields Proven ability to work independently Ability to create next steps and innovate when faced with ambiguity Comfort with and initiative in public speaking opportunities Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills Residents of Hill County, and/or individuals having a prior working relationship/ community connections in Hill County. Preferred Experience / Skills / Training: Prior substance use prevention experience preferred. Experience navigating and creating data pathways in online databases is a plus. Experience working in diverse environments Experience meeting pre-determined measures and documenting progress Experience in multi-cultural environments is preferred, and bi-lingual in English and Spanish is a plus. Knowledge and comfort using Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and online meeting platforms (i.e. Zoom) is preferred. Other Requirements Pre-employment criminal background check, employment background check and drug screening are required (with ongoing annual criminal background and drug screening) Must be able to lift, pull, and carry up to 30 lbs. Must have reliable transportation and a cell phone. Must be able to work occasional outdoor activities and handle outdoor environmental elements. Must be able to work occasional evenings or weekends for community events and presentations. Demonstrate adherence to the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in the Health and Health Care (The National CLAS Standards, 2013) for the proposed target population and demonstrate good-faith efforts to reach out to underserved population.
